VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
My experience of God was extremely punishing, extremely scary, and I feared at such a deep level. Now, the Course in Miracles points to this. The Course in Miracles says that deep inside of us, there is a guilt and there is a fear of God.
There is a fear of dissolution. There is a fear that this other self that we made is going to, that's what we are. We believe that that's what we are, and that's not going to be acceptable to God.
Now, the Course, years later, laid out my entire childhood experience, and I was shocked to realize that I was not alone in my understanding and my experience of God. The reason this topic is so important to me and why I love talking about God and talking about God and going deeper into it is because the healing of the Word, the healing of the idea, and the healing of the belief that we are separate is everything. It is what the Course is about for me, and it is what my life's journey has been about.
But it took a lot of intention and work and prayers and practice to begin moving from this external, white, male, punishing God. Fear of punishment lives inside of our culture. The belief that we could be excommunicated, the belief that we're not safe, these remain pervasive throughout culture.
And so your willingness to become free from them, I believe, is so honorable. And I believe that the deepest and the fastest route to that healing of that which we experience in the world and see at every experience of the ego's world is in healing it in our relationship with the Divine. When we go right to the core of relationship, of understanding, and we let that deep, deep healing happen, then boom, the entire world changes.
So throughout this series, we're going to really be going to the root of healing our relationship with God, but more than, and this is an internal experience, and what I know is that when I was a child, the training that I had around God was an eye-vowel relationship, but it was external, it was separate, and it was in duality, it was in fear. And then, because I threw that baby out with the bathwater, and I didn't want anything to do with that, which was the best move I had, it was either have an external punishing God or no God. I chose no God because it was better than that.
And then I went on a journey of falling into addiction and self-destruction, and in the addiction and in the self-destruction, I found God. I found a God that saved me. Now, the process of healing that relationship, I jumped over to study about God as law.
That felt safe, that felt good. I studied the science of mind. It became a science of mind minister.
And in science of mind, they say God is love and God is law. Those are the words they speak, but there's largely a vibration of, if I may say my experience, this is mine, God is law because that's safe and it's in person. And there is a great thing to be found in the impersonal nature of God, to know God as principle, to know God as a law that operates perfectly within you and for you.
That is very, very, very healing. Never did I learn that as a child. So I hung out there for a while and that felt really good, but I was missing the three legs of a stool, if you will.
I was missing the healing for me around the I, thou relationship. Now, there are three phases. Let me go over those for a moment.
So there is the first person, the first person, which is God as I am. I am, oh, I'm sorry, that's our third session. I wanna start back to the first session.
God is the infinite. This is in the third person. This is the God is law principle, the absolute reality, which I'm speaking of.
There is great healing in knowing God in this particular way. That is what we're going to look at in our first session. Really look at principle, God is law.
God is that which you can rely upon and that you can learn to use in a powerful way as a creator. One of my favorite lines in the course says, you are created to create the good, the beautiful and the holy. That's what you're created to create.
That is the activation of the law. So we're going to look at that and we're going to learn how to use that intentionally. And we're going to accept the healings that are available for us there.
Then the second week, we are going to go back to God as I am the, I'm sorry, keep doing that. God is the beloved. And this is the relationship base.
This is the beloved, the holy companion. And this is one that I find a lot of people have resistance to in the spiritual realm. Well, yeah, I'll say that, fair enough.
Some people are drawn to the course because they like the intellectual approach and they like the first principle of God is all there is. And they don't entertain the I, thou relationship. This is the devotion.
This is the expression of surrendering otherness into the wave of love. And devotion is the way that this happens. And in this current experience where it appears to be a body, you appear to be there and I appear here; the I-thou relationship can support the highest experience of this reality.
This was such a powerful healing for me. And it was when I went to India, one of my trips to India. And in India, the Eastern world, at least where I was, devotion was present. Everyone was in the households. People had altars in their households. People had altars in their cars, going to temples. Devotion was everywhere. People would be doing devotions right on the street. And it was just a part of the culture.
In the Western world, cynical. I mean, Cynical, capital C. The Western world is, don't look that way... Don't show any external devotion. Keep it tight. Don't lose your mind. Don't lose your mind because I'm not going to be like them.
This resistance, I propose, is a block to you experiencing the devotion of God and the ecstasy of being. There is such life, such joy, such connection in the second experience of God, the I-thou relationship, where you allow yourself to experience full devotion, where you allow yourself to be completely surrendered in the love and in the experience of it. And in letting God be to you a father, a mother, a brother, a friend, we do a very specific guided experience that I was given many years ago when I was in India that changed my life, changed my whole experience, my healing around God and my willingness to have as one of my experiences of God, the I-thou relationship.
And then in the third week, we move to God is "I AM," the indwelling presence, the first person. This is the mystical. This is the "I AM"... This is the Christ within. This is the light that you are. This is in the beginning and the end and no time and space, the allness. God is, period. This is the third face of God. And this makes up a three-legged stool.
God is principle. God is personal. God is all-pervasive presence.
I personally love my three-legged stool. And I love knowing when, which leg I am leaning into. And I experienced many people have a preference for one and a resistance to another.
You will have that experience. If you walk with me through these three classes, you will find one that triggers you. You will find one that you have natural preference for.
That's fine. I want to encourage your natural preference, but the focus is to also encourage you to extend and to try the different experiences. And I think the stool is a good analogy.
The three-legged stool makes a strong stand. A two-legged stool doesn't stand. A one-legged stool wobbles. A three-legged stool is solid. And this is what we're going to explore together. And we're going to have a guided experiences, individual experiences, and then we're going to have the week to entertain whichever one we're focusing on.
So again, next week, we're going to look at the first, which is the third person, God as principle. Then we're going to look at the second week, the second person, God as personal, the I-Thou relationship, and activate the energy of devotion. Again, I find this one to where people have the most resistance, especially Western culture.
And then the third one which we'll go to, which is the God is, all indwelling God as presence.
So that's our focus... I would love for you to join me. Peace and love.
